The BATA program is divided into a series of experiments to demonstrate that it is possible to label and detect barium ions (Ba ++ ) produced by the double beta decay of xenon. To this end, the project includes the development of a blue laser to perform Ba + ion spectroscopy . To do a specific study on Ba ++ controlling the environment to stimulate the conditions of NEXT, which is the neutrino experiment in which BATA will be used, an ion source will deliver the right ions in a controllable way. The Spanish Pulsed Laser Center (CLPU) has extensive experience in the development of laser technology and its scientific team has extensive experience in atomic physics and spectroscopy. It is therefore the ideal place to develop this technology in Spain.
