On the occasion of Castilla y León’s Science Week, the Centro de Láseres Pulsados will host a public lecture titled Particle Accelerators in the Service of Health at the Banco Santander Work Café. In this talk, Dr. José Manuel Álvarez, Head of the Radiation Protection Service at CLPU, will discuss the impact of particle accelerators on health, beginning with the research and development of laser-based ultra-intense accelerators at the Centro de Láseres Pulsados (CLPU).
The lecture will highlight innovative technologies that could revolutionize particle accelerators. Additionally, topics like proton therapy and hadron therapy advanced treatments now available in Spain, which offer greater precision in targeting tumors while minimizing damage to healthy tissue will be covered. The talk will also explore the challenges in implementing these technologies and their future potential, emphasizing the link between physics and health in the fight against cancer.
