If you rely on a screen reader or other assistive technology, you will be glad to know that WordPress has also been developed with web accessibility and proper semantic markup in mind. The project is committed to complying with the guidelines of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), in particular WCAG 2.1 and ATAG 2.0, working continuously to identify and remove barriers.
The WordPress Accessibility Team actively collaborates to improve the experience for both visitors and administrators, progressively incorporating standards such as WAI-ARIA.
As a result, improvements have been introduced in key areas such as:
- Forms with proper labels
- Color contrast and intensity in themes and blocks
- Compatibility with “skip navigation” in default themes
- Image handling and alternative text
- Removal of duplicate or incorrect tags
- Accessibility in the block editor (Gutenberg)
