Lazing away the summer: Some dormice start their hibernation early

Dormice em(Glis glis)/em spend about eight months on average in hibernation. Wildlife biologists have shown for the first time that these animals can hibernate for up to 11.4 months, suggesting that this might, in fact, be a world record.
