He is currently working in the field of radioprotection at de CLPU in Salamanca. The advent of the ultra-intense femtosecond laser pulses has opened a class of experiments where ionizing particles and radiation souces can be produced and accelerated. At the CLPU we are concerned with the radioprotection issues related with laser sources and we are working in differents aspects related to radiological protection. He is particularly interested in the detection, which is one of the most relevant aspects for radioprotection purposes.
During the last years José Manuel Álvarez has been working as a postgraduate research at the Institute of Space Sciences (ICE) in Barcelona, Spain. He has participated in different research projects related to development of detector technologies required for future gamma-ray space missions. Previously, José Manuel Álvarez held a research fellowship at the GSI, Darmstadt, Germany, aimed to the preparation of experiments at the PHELIX laser.
