The BATA program is divided into a series of experiments in order to prove that it is possible to tag and detect barium ions (Ba++) produced by double beta decay of Xenon. For this purpose the project includes the development of a blue laser in order to do spectroscopy of Ba+ ions. In order to do a specific study on Ba++ controlling the surroundings to stimulate the conditions of NEXT, which is the neutrino’s experiment in which BATA will be used, an ion source will deliver the suitable ions controllable way. The Spanish Pulsed Laser Center (CLPU) has extensive experience in the development of laser technology and its scientific team has a huge experience in atomic physics and spectroscopy. It is therefore the ideal place to develop this technology in Spain.
