Proton beam applications: magnet-based proton energy selector

The design and experimental characterization of the proton energy selector system that allows selecting the «monoenergetic» proton beams from the laser-driven TNSA spectrum generated by laser intensity of  I ≈ 1019 W/cmis explained. The main feature of this energy is not only the monochromaticity (proton energy bandwidths of tens of KeV can be achieved) but the short time spread of the selected proton beam. This is fundamental for numerous applications, as maximum time spreads of hundreds of ps have been reported with this setup.
