The LSC in collaboration with the Universitat de Barcelona has launched the two new continuous GNSS stations, which will form part of the Canfranc geodynamic facility. The new stations have been installed in the areas of Jaca and Candanchú. They will enable the monitoring of the tectonic deformations in the Pyrenees and will be essential for multi-disciplinary studies of the earthquake activity in the region.

ALBA – CELLS

ALBA is a third generation Synchrotron Light Facility. It is constructed and operated by the CELLS consortium and is co-financed by the Catalan and Spanish governments. t is located in Cerdanyola del Vallès near Barcelona, Spain, a city to live and share.

The storage ring commissioning and the installation of the first seven beamlines are completed. First users are visiting the laboratory since May 2012.

X-Ray Free Electron Laser (XFEL)

The European XFEL is a research facility currently under construction in the Hamburg area, Germany. From 2015 on, it will generate extremely intense X-ray flashes to be used by researchers from all over the world. Scientists will be able to map the atomic details of viruses, decipher the molecular composition of cells, take three dimensional images of the nano-world, film chemical reactions and study processes such as those occurring deep inside planets.

The CNA is a joint center of the University of Sevilla, Regional Govermment of Andalucía and CSIC. It is a Singular Scientific and Technological facility (ICTS by its Spanish initials), dedicated to interdisciplinary research and therefore open to external users. There are three ion accelerators: one Tandem Van de Graaff 3-MV, a cyclotron, which provides 18 MeV protons and deuterons of 9 MeV and a Tandem Cockcroft Walton type 1MV accelerator used as a mass spectrometer. Applying these three accelerators, CNA covers several fields as materials science, environmental impact, nuclear and particle physics, nuclear instrumentation, medical imaging, biomedical research and preclinical molecular imaging or dating, among others.
