As an interdisciplinary research institute Empa conducts cutting-edge materials and technology research. Our research and development activities focus on meeting the requirements of industry and the needs of society, and thus link applications-oriented research to the practical implementation of new ideas in the areas of nanostructured, “smart” materials and surfaces, environmental, energy and sustainable building technologies as well as biotechnology and medical technology.
It is a state-of-the-art university capable of supporting scientific and technological innovation thanks to its cutting edge facilities, such as the Enviromental Technology Laboratories, the National Experimental Biology Centre and the Énergie Matériaux Télécommunications Research Center (unique in Canada). They have a wide experience in the fields of materials and natural, biomedical, and social sciences. INRS helps train the next generation of highly skilled scientists in twenty-two master’s and doctoral programs and also shorts programs.
The main characteristic of LNF consists in knowing how to build particle accelerators. This path was set with the synchrotron in 1957, continued with AdA and ADONE up to the current DAφNE, the machine with the world record for low energy instantaneous luminosity, a true success.The technical and scientific expertise of LNF in the field of accelerators is unique in Italy and competitive in Europe, representing an asset that INFN also makes available to society.

Los Centros Científicos Tecnológicos (CCT) deben asegurar espacios apropiados para la ejecución de investigaciones científicas, tecnológicas y de desarrollo en el espacio físico y de influencia que les compete. Las Unidades Ejecutoras son unidades de investigación y servicios que, bajo la responsabilidad de un director, realizan tareas de investigación científica, tecnológica o de desarrollo, organizadas en varias líneas de trabajo. Respecto a las Unidades Asociadas son todas las instituciones con la que el CONICET establece un Convenio en mérito a su relevancia científico – tecnológica dentro del Sistema Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología de Argentina.
It is a public research institute, oriented on the fundamental and applied research in physics. The founder of the institute is The Czech Academy of Sciences. The present research programme of the Institute comprises five branches of physics: paticle physics, the physics of condensed matter, solid state physics, optics and plasma physics. It also corresponds to the way how the institute is divided into major research divisions.
Its history begins in 1960. It researches in: solution of the problems associated with the development of safe and enviromentally clean power industry; research in the field of energy conservation and chemical power generation; studies into the thermophysical, electrophysicak, optical and dynamic properties of materials and low-temperature plasma; studies into the processes of heat-and mass transfer and ohysical gas and plasma dynamics, and research in the field of themophysics of intensive pulsed treatment of matter.
The LSC in collaboration with the Universitat de Barcelona has launched the two new continuous GNSS stations, which will form part of the Canfranc geodynamic facility. The new stations have been installed in the areas of Jaca and Candanchú. They will enable the monitoring of the tectonic deformations in the Pyrenees and will be essential for multi-disciplinary studies of the earthquake activity in the region.

The storage ring commissioning and the installation of the first seven beamlines are completed. First users are visiting the laboratory since May 2012.
The European XFEL is a research facility currently under construction in the Hamburg area, Germany. From 2015 on, it will generate extremely intense X-ray flashes to be used by researchers from all over the world. Scientists will be able to map the atomic details of viruses, decipher the molecular composition of cells, take three dimensional images of the nano-world, film chemical reactions and study processes such as those occurring deep inside planets.

The Centro de Asistencia a la Investigación (CAI) de Espectroscopía Multifotónica y de Femtosegundos, belongs to one of the research support centres created in the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Since its inception, this CAI has a nanosecond laser system formed by two Nd:YAG lasers and two dye lasers with second harmonic generators. Since 2004 the CLUR also has a femtosecond laser system.

CENIEH is a Research Centre belonging to the national network of Unique Science & Technology Infrastructures (ICTS). It is open to scientific and technological use for the national and international scientific and technological community. Its main goal is the development of scientific research in the field of human evolution during the Late Neogene and Quaternary. Other targets are promoting awareness and knowledge transfer to society and encouraging and supporting collaboration in conducting excavations and deposits of these periods, both Spanish and worldwide.
The CNA is a joint center of the University of Sevilla, Regional Govermment of Andalucía and CSIC. It is a Singular Scientific and Technological facility (ICTS by its Spanish initials), dedicated to interdisciplinary research and therefore open to external users. There are three ion accelerators: one Tandem Van de Graaff 3-MV, a cyclotron, which provides 18 MeV protons and deuterons of 9 MeV and a Tandem Cockcroft Walton type 1MV accelerator used as a mass spectrometer. Applying these three accelerators, CNA covers several fields as materials science, environmental impact, nuclear and particle physics, nuclear instrumentation, medical imaging, biomedical research and preclinical molecular imaging or dating, among others.
