Simplified Numerical Approach for the Simulation of Holeboring

For the better understanding of plasma physics simulations utilizing the particle-in-cell approach (PIC) are often used, and were already proven successful in predicting the effects during laser-plasma interaction in the past. A disadvantage of PIC is that the different effects of playing a role can not be distinguished. Another drawback is the high computation power needed for these kinds of simulations. A simplified numerical approach for the computation of the directly back-reflected laser fi eld during laser-plasma interaction is presented. This approach can be used to investigate the impact of the different effects on the back-reflected light. Furthermore, the simulation can be computed on standard computers within a limited time frame. An overview of the simulation principle is given, and the results of this approach are compared to 2D-PIC simulations.
