3rd Laser-Plasma Summer School (LaPlaSS_3)
Experimental methods in high-intensity laser-plasma processes
14th-18th September 2020
DEADLINE: 4th SEPTEMBER 2020
The third edition of the Laser-Plasma Summer School (LAPLASS_3), organized by the Centro de Láseres Pulsados and the Laser-Plasma Chair at the University of Salamanca, will be held ONLINE in September 2020, from 14 to 18, with the topic ‘Experimental methods in high-intensity Laser-Plasma processes’. LaPlaSS was born by the collaboration between CLPU and Laserlab-Europe and in this third edition, the European Initiative is still supporting the school through the poster prize (300€). International experts from the EU and abroad will support the school with dedicated lessons around three main topics:
- Particle acceleration and diagnostics
- Laser-Plasma applications
- Laser-Fusion and extreme state of matter
ABSTRACT
Laser-driven plasma is the primary subject of investigation in the modern high-power laser facilities. The Centro de Láseres Pulsados (CLPU) is one of the most representative facilities in this area operating a PW level system working at 1-10 Hz, VEGA. This system is already in operation and several experimental campaigns have been already run from different internationally recognized research groups. The combination of laser intensity, short duration, and repetition rate offered by VEGA pave the way for new existing possibilities for the next experimental campaigns but also represent a scientific and technological challenge for what concerns targetry and diagnostic techniques.
The Laser-Plasma Chair at the University of Salamanca (LaPlas) is supported by CLPU and its mission is to promote and develop Laser-Plasma physics at the University of Salamanca and support the experimental activities in the PW-class system VEGA at CLPU to drive national and international user community around Salamanca and to form and train a new generation of researchers in the field of High-Power Laser-Plasma and particle-radiation beams to enable them to make optimum use of laser facilities in novel applications.
Within this action, the CLPU and the LaPlas present the 3rd Laser-Plasma Summer School –LaPlaSS– dedicated to ‘Experimental methods in high-intensity laser-plasma processes’. The school is open to MSc and PhD students from Physics and related disciplines (i.e, engineering, material science…).
The Centro de Láseres Pulsados an the Laser-Plama Chair will deliver a certificate of participipation.
